Cuba: Thanks for your informative guide to Cuba, we leave Dublin on Saturday for two weeks. Its my second trip and your itineraries have been a mine of info - thanks! Paddy McPoland, Dublin
Venezuela: One of South America's best organised treks is the one through Venezuelan countryside and up a rainforest ramp to the top of the flat-topped Mount Roraima. The black rock, pink sand, strange plants and eerie, misty atmosphere make you think you're in an old science fiction film. The views from the top, above the clouds, are stupendous. Jim, London
Uruguay: If you find yourself in buenos aires, exhausted by the sheer sensory overload of your south american journey, get on the boat to the other side of the river plate and visit uruguay. it's a quietly beautiful country and won't ask too much of you. the coast is beautiful and if you make your way east you'll find lonely beaches with just you and the sea lions to enjoy. Helena Suarez, London
Chile: Don't miss the Navimag boat trip from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt in Chile. Three days' navigating through the southern archipelago is a must - and you can go backpacker or stylish (well, kind of). Don't forget seasick tablets. Jo Costain, Edinburgh
Peru: Ceviche. The national dish - raw fish with vinegar, capers, onions and much else. Delicious. Sarah
USA:
If you're travelling on the West Coast consider a trip with the Green Tortoise Bus company. They run a fantastic 'Alternative' Greyhound' service with an early morning Indian Sweat lodge followed by a dip in an icy Oregon stream before breakfast. They also offer an extensive range of adventure tours in their brilliantly converted city buses. Christian Long-Fung
Namibia: We rented a 4WD in Windhoek - and had 2 flat tyres in 1 week. Although in both cases we were within reach of a garage, my advice would be to ask ensure that the rental company provide 2 spares. Martin, Bournemouth
Namibia: Namibia was harsh but beautiful! Hestie, Johannesburg
Egypt: Siwa is an amazing ruined town of sand, in the middle of the desert. Salt lakes shimmering in the desert heat. Fascinating local history, amongst a tribe which was virtually cut off from the rest of Egypt until twenty odd years ago. Claire Machin, London
Australia: Take a hike. The South coast track in Tassie is fantastic. You have to fly in to the start at Melaleuca with your tent, sleeping bag and food for a week (which feels very intrepid). Walk out to Cockle Creek past stunning scenery with a steadily fitter body and lighter pack. Ros, Sydney
