Eye eye officer
Road signs are a rare tourist luxury in Cuba. The map was clear: take the autopista east out of Havana and continue straight to Viñales in the province of Pinar del Rio. The car rental agent in the capital had his doubts.

Driving Namibia
The hard-packed gravel road is deserted - a snaking sliver of insignificance in the great Namibian expanse of dusty scrubland and distant shimmering sand dunes. The only movement under the vast blue sky is the leisurely progress of the little car.

Cuba – go before Castro goes
In the 1940s and 50s Frank Sinatra and his Mafia friends treated the sumptuous Hotel Naçional in Havana as their playground. Sinatra provided the cloak of respectability under which dodgy deals took place, while the rich and flocked to the hotspot.
